MY LETTER TO MOTOROLA IN RESPONSE TO THE BOOTLOADER ISSUE ON THE DROID X

Dear Motorola:

You’ve got to be kidding me. Locking the bootloader? You’ve turned into Apple.

I am considering boycotting all products from Motorola and telling everyone else I know to do the same. This is an outrage. Have you forgotten the Open Handset Alliance? Alienating customers isn’t a good idea.

Motorola’s a great company and you guys have been around a long time. I’ve gained a lot of respect for you and I want to see you succeed. But you have to get it together. Such bad decisions were the reason you almost went bankrupt before you entered your partnership with Google. Android is all about open-source; that’s the heart of our movement. Don’t turn your back on what made your near-failure into a raging success. Unlock the bootloaders on Droid X and all future devices. The customers have the right to choose how they want their phones to work. I appreciate you trying to protect our data, but we don’t mind the risk. We have enough Big Brothers.

Thanks for all your wonderful devices and services. I hope you make the right decision this time.

A loyal fan who hopes to remain one,

JC

_________

Slight addendum (7.19.10): MY LETTER TO THE OPEN HANDSET ALLIANCE REGARDING MOTOROLA’S ACTIONS

Dear Open Handset Alliance,

I hereby ask that Motorola be removed from the OHA due to their locking down of the bootloader on the Droid X. Such activity is in direct violation of the Open Handset Alliance. We do not need another Big Brother making decisions over what we customers choose to do with our purchased property. We are smart enough to choose which ROM suits our phone the best. If Motorola continues in rolling backwards, that is most certainly not open-source. Hopefully your action will make them realize just how badly they are treating their customers. We appreciate all of your help in resolving this matter.

Sincerely yours,

JC

THE TEA PARTY

Protestors at the Philadelphia Tea Party on Ap...
Image via Wikipedia

I had promised this article a while ago, but so much more material is given to me day after day that I have to take everything into account. Word to Rand Paul and Sharron Angle. But what better day than Independence Day to expose the Tea Party for what it really is?

Taxes, taxes, taxes. Socialist Obama (who wasn’t born in this country and still hasn’t shown us his birth certificate) has a communist plot to destroy this nation!! This is exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany! GASP!! We must rise up and fight for our rights! Take back our country! Gather your armies!

All theatrics aside, I don’t think I have to go into detail about who the Tea Party is and what they’re for. We all hate big government, but why no protests against George W. Bush’s big government? We hate seeing high taxes, but Bush hella raised taxes. Those teabagger folks (and you gotta keep a straight face calling them that) were silent as hell back then. But now that we have the first African-American president, all of a sudden it’s a problem? What about the laws surrounding marriage and divorce, specifically child support and alimony? Those are examples of government at its biggest. Futhermore, since the Tea Party seems to be so against people getting free government handouts, why no talk about Nadya Suleman (the “OctoMom”) pimping the welfare system?

Let’s just cut to the chase: The Tea Party are nothing more than a bunch of people who follow political propaganda planted into the media by big corporations. You know, the ones who got us into this mess. The multi-billionaires who don’t pay their taxes. All the teabaggers do is troll endlessly against people who oppose the special interests. Government spending is the least of our worries. The rich elite have special loopholes that aren’t available to the rest of us. Those loopholes enable them to get around paying their taxes. And guess who gets stuck with the bill? You guessed it, the rest of us. That’s why our taxes get high. It’s not (entirely) Obama’s fault. When our state budgets get slashed (especially in the education departments), look at who’s sitting on huge wads of cash while our economy suffers. Those people have lots of money, clout, and MEDIA INFLUENCE. Cue the Fox News Channel. Cue wingnut radio pundits like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck pimping people’s ignorance and blind anger. When something is repeated over and over and over in the media, people tend to believe what’s said loudly enough. The rich bigwigs couldn’t be happier. Not to mention the fat paychecks these fear-mongerers get from their ever-so-paranoid followers. Then their sponsors sell them gold.

The Tea Party folks are being used and they don’t even realize it. When Wall Street steals money from us, when BP spills oil into our oceans, when racist politicians draft discriminatory legislation in states like Arizona, Texas, and Oklahoma, when the greedy corporations steal money from us, they put that money into the political machine that raises anger in the wrong direction. That’s why you get people who would rather defend Wall Street and BP than the poor people who are suffering every day.

The teabaggers say big government is so bad. They don’t want to see redistribution of wealth. They defend free market laissez-faire capitalism. To translate: Rather than big government, they want to see big corporations. They’re against socialism, but they love corporatism. Don’t raise taxes for anyone! (Especially not the rich!) As far as the ones suffering from a poor economy, who need more government programs (such as unemployment benefits), let them suffer! It’s socialistic to help them!

I could go on and on about the Tea Party, but I just wanted to make a clear point here. It’s time we learn what the Tea Party is really about. The more we learn about them, the more we see how irrelevant they really are. And the people are finally starting to realize it. Do not feed the trolls.

MEN & FASHION

0 Comments | This entry was posted on May 25 2010

To help illustrate my point, check out this AT&T commercial advertising the Motorola Backflip:

I’ll keep this one short and simple: Any grown man who takes this much of an interest in fashion is suspect.

Don’t get me wrong; it’s good for a man to take interest in his appearance and personal hygeine. In fact, ladies find that sort of attention to detail attractive. But don’t let the media fool you. They only encourage this type of male vanity in order to sell more product to them. What the corporate sponsors don’t want you to know is that you really don’t need what they’re selling. As long as your clothes and shoes are clean and your haircut’s fresh, that’s really all you need right there. Keep it simple, stupid. Females like confidence.

There’s no need for spending extra money on name brands either. All that does is make the companies selling those name brands richer, therefore encouraging them to keep on overpricing their products (for example: Michael Jordan‘s luxury basketball shoes). Quite frankly, any female who would deny a man the privilege of dating her simply because he doesn’t wear name-brand items is – in my honest opinion – a superficial buffoon. You can chase after girls like that if you want but I sure wouldn’t.

Let me sum this up in the nicest way I possibly can: Fashion is for women and gay men. For a man to be more vain than his girlfriend should bring about questions of his sexual orientation.

Seriously, fellas. Man up. You’re making us all look bad out there. Let’s leave all the feminine tendencies to the male cast of Jersey Shore.

10 MISTAKES OBAMA MADE AS PRESIDENT

[Last edit: 4.1.10]

I’ll try to make this as chronological as possible:

1. Bailouts. Enough said. Not to mention appointing Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary knowing good and well how connected he is to the people on Wall Street who are robbing us of our money.

2. Taking the police’s side in the senseless murder of Sean Bell, and saying nothing about Oscar Grant III or the disturbing pattern of young black males being killed by police.

3. Protecting Bush and Cheney from being prosecuted for war crimes such as torture and warrant-less wiretapping.

4. The Council For Women & Girls. Is there one for men and/or boys? You guessed it: nope. No time for ending police brutality against black men, but all the time in the world for feminism and chivalry. Do a search for Valerie Solanas on Google.

5. Blaming men for single motherhood on Father’s Day. (See #4, especially the last sentence.)

6. Failing to use the arrest of Professor Henry Louis Gates to shine light on excessive police force against minorities. (See #2.) Obama was off to one hell of a good start when he said that the police acted stupidly, but eventually caved into pressure way too easily and tried to play things off with a so-called “beer summit”. How’s that going to prevent things like that from happening again?

7. Creating Fatherhood.gov to instruct men on how to be fathers, without doing the same for potential mothers. (See #4 again, especially the last sentence.)

8. Eliminating the public option from the health care reform bill. The bill was already unpopular with the right, but removing the public option made it unpopular with the left.

9. Increasing troop levels in Afghanistan. I thought Bush was out of office.

10. Offshore drilling for oil. EDIT: Drilling for oil period. Drill, baby, drill. Was that a Sarah Palin quote? You betcha. Whatever happened to the promise of clean energy and reducing our dependency on foreign oil?

Barack Obama sure knows how to make great speeches, but when it comes to fulfilling his campaign promises, that’s a whole ‘nother story. Let’s see what more “change” we have to look forward to in the weeks, months, and years to come. Yes, we can.

I created this article on March 31, 2010, the day before April Fool’s Day, to remind everyone that we are the fools.

STILL WAITING FOR DROID 2.1

I got my Motorola Droid from Verizon the day after its much-hyped debut. Long story short, it changed my life. One thing about Google‘s Android OS: It’ll make a tech geek out of anybody. When Google unveiled the Nexus One just three months later, I was one of millions of Droid owners scared that Nexus’ Android 2.1 system would outdate the 5-month-old Droid’s 2.0.1 system. Even worse, Android 2.1 flaunts live animated wallpapers, enhanced battery life, 3-D photo gallery, pinch-to-zoom multitouch functions that iPhone users enjoy, voice recognition on every text field, and so much more! Damn cell phone companies; always trying to get us to blow money on the next hot thing! Luckily, Verizon came out with a statement assuring us Droids that an OTA upgrade was on its way. Yippee!

Which brings us to this weekend, the promised date of the Android 2.1 rollouts for Verizon’s Motorola Droid. It was supposed to go like this:

Thursday 3.18
12noon EDT – 1,000 users get update
Friday 3.19
Midnight EDT- 1,000 more users get update
Sunday 3.21
Midnight EDT – 20,000 users get update, recurring every 12 hours until all users are updated.

It’s now Sunday, March 21 at 9:30pm on the West Coast (Monday, March 22 at 12:30am on the East). My Droid is still running Android 2.0.1. The 2.1 rollout has been delayed due to a glitch with the company doing the rollouts.

FML.

If I may offer the folks over at Big Red (Verizon Wireless) a little advice, please make sure that you handle these rollouts a little more professionally in the future. A little planning doesn’t hurt. And don’t announce dates unless they’re for certain. Don’t even let such details leak. Glitches that might not be your fault end up making you guys look bad just the same.

All in all, I still own one of the best smartphones on the market, with or without Android 2.1. Even sweeter, my phone kicks iPhone’s ASS! (Don’t try to deny it, fanboys.) Of course, if I really wanted to be a daring tech nerd, I could easily root my phone with one of the many ROMs devised by your friendly hackers. Of course, many of those are not exactly safe, and I’m not a huge fan of the possibility of bricking my phone, seeing how that voids the warranty. I think it’s best to just wait for Google.

Once Adobe Flash 10.1 comes out exclusively on Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One this summer, it’s GAME OVER!

In the meantime, hurry up with that 2.1, Big Red!

OBAMACARE IS HERE. SO WHAT NOW?

219 in favor. 212 opposed. Obama’s healthcare legislation is finally here.

So what now? With no public option, is this really the HCR bill we really want? Now that the private insurers are going to get millions of new customers (against their will), how are we not to think that a monopoly is taking place? With all the concessions that we made to the Republican Party, how do we know that the GOP hasn’t magically slipped their bill in place of the one we were promised.

And how come the President who promised us healthcare reform with a public option now denying that he ever promised any public option whatsoever?

Well, we elected Barack Obama in a landslide. We at least owe him a chance to show us what he has to offer.

Besides, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh threatened to leave the country once HCR is passed. I say we help those neo-cons pack their bags. (Even though every other country has their dreaded “socialistuniversal healthcare.)

Not a copycat. Just a better phone.

iPhone isn’t as good as you think. Multitasking? Adobe Flash?
